Ferreira making it count
April 24 2008
The remarkable comeback of Stormers' prop Schalk Ferreira against the Highlanders at Newlands on Saturday is going to be an emotional affair.
A few months ago he faced death when he wrote off his car in a near-fatal car crash in Stellenbosch - a student town outside of Cape Town.
Ferreira escaped with a serious neck injury and was told that apart from being lucky to be alive, he will never be able to play rugby again.
But Ferreira went for a second opinion and was given the green light to put on his togs again.
And when he runs on to the field on Saturday it is obvious that he will be emotional.
"For sure it is going to be emotional. I'm getting a second chance in life and a second chance with the Stormers," said Ferreira.
"I've just got to grab the opportunity with both hands."
Ferreira, better known as a tighthead prop, will face the Highlanders on the loosehead side after an injury sidelined JD Moller, who has been on top of his game over the last couple of weeks.
"Filling Moller's boots is not going to be easy, but I've got to use the opportunity to help my side to a possible semi-final berth," said Ferreira.
