Steve Meehan: Tight-lipped

Bath Head Coach Steve Meehan insisted the Danny Cipriani incident was dealt with appropriately during Sunday's Guinness Premiership semi-final defeat to Wasps, but had less to say over his team's performance.

Bath lost 21-10, but the game was disrupted by a serious injury to Wasps fly-half Danny Cipriani, who is thought to have broken an ankle.

"Players from both sides alerted the referee immediately," said Meehan over the incident, which saw Cipriani's foot trapped under Olly Barkley's body.

"The player had to be taken care of immediately and the reaction of the players was spot on."

Bath openside Michael Lipman required stitches to a lip injury but Meehan expects him to be available for Sunday's European Challenge Cup final against Worcester, as well as England's tour of New Zealand.

"Michael made a tackle and split his lip. He's had about 10 stitches," said Meehan.

"He had difficulty breathing so we couldn't get him back on the pitch.

"He'll be okay for Sunday. He's been in terrific form and is a hard player to replace once he goes off."

Over the defeat, in which Bath were far from their usual selves, Meehan had little comment.

"We're disappointed because we didn't play to our best today," he said.

"We had opportunities but the passes weren't up to scratch. We were our own worst enemies at times."
