Final blow: Barnes to miss ECC showdown

Bath have been dealt an injury blow with the news that David Barnes will miss the European Challenge Cup Final against Worcester at Kingsholm on Sunday.

The prop's calf problem is believed to be linked to the one sustained in the penultimate game of the regular Guinness Premiership season.

Meanwhile, boss Steve Meehan is also sweating on the fitness of England duo Michael Lipman (cut lip) and Lee Mears (shoulder), with both struggling to be fit in time for the ECC clash.

"I'm sure (David Barnes) won't take part given that's the same calf he injured against Saracens," Meehan said, speaking to BBC Radio Bristol.

"He was out for a fortnight then so I cannot see him healing in time.

"David Flatman went on in his place and played very well. He's come through so we should be okay next week.

"Both (Mears and Lipman) are England internationals. They have been in good form and both are important members of our team.

"Mearsy was just shy of making the Wasps game so he should be okay for next Sunday and a little bit of plastic skin over Michael's lip might get him home for next week."
