Thompson receives Scotland A call
May 28 2008
Jim Thompson has been called into the Scotland A squad for the Churchill Cup, just a day after signing for Edinburgh.
The 23-year-old former Heriot's back is one of six players drafted into the squad by coach Rob Moffat .
Moffat has also called up Thompson's new Edinburgh team-mates Matt Dey, Andrew Turnbull and Greig Laidlaw for the North America trip.
Dey replaces the unavailable Scott Barrow and Thompson steps in for Marcus Di Rollo, who is needed by Toulouse.
Two props have also been added - Rotherham's Stuart Corsar and Leeds player Tommy McGee.
One more forward will be added next week, while Turnbull, Laidlaw, Thompson and Colin Gregor will join the squad after the Edinburgh Sevens at Murrayfield this weekend.
Moffat had lost Max Evans, Geoff Cross and Craig Smith to Frank Hadden's squad for the tour of Argentina, although Smith has since withdrawn.
Scotland A begin their campaign against Canada in Ottawa on Saturday, June 7.
