WRU to regulate agents

Roger Lewis: Deal safeguards players and Wales

The Welsh Rugby Union are set to introduce practices to examine the role player agents play in the country and bring them into line with IRB regulation 5.

The new aims for the four regions are being brought in to help remove conflicts of interest, stop agents from acting for more than one party and to regulate approaches to players under contract.

"We are doing this to safeguard the players and the game in Wales," said WRU boss Roger Lewis.

"The introduction of this regulation [which starts in Wales from October 1] has been long overdue and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this process.

"The WRU is committed to creating sustainability on and off the field and as the governing body of the sport in Wales I am pleased that we have achieved a consensus with all of our partners."
