Springbok Women heading for Dubai
September 22 2008
The South African Women's Sevens side won the Champions of the Confederation of African Rugby on Sunday, and in doing so qualified for the IRB Women's Sevens World Championships next year.
Dubai will play host to the inaugural Women's Sevens World Cup next year, which will run alongside the men's tournament.
The Springbok Women's team qualified thanks to a series of crushing defeats at the Champions of the Confederation of African Rugby on Sunday.
Denver Wannies' side beat Uganda in the final, 24-0, following on from a 43-0 victory over Uganda A, 31-0 against Zambia and two victories against Kenya, 36-5 and 26-5.
"Our plans are coming together and we continue to meet our targets," Wannies said.
"It was great motivation knowing that we were playing for a place in the World Championships. We have clearly defined targets and can't afford to lose focus. In the next week or so, we will be working on plans for the next phase."
South Africa are joined by fellow finalists Uganda as representatives for Africa in Dubai.
