Ten fail to show for Scotland training
September 22 2008
Frank Hadden's season did not get off to the best start, when the ten English-based players in his squad failed to turn up for the first gathering of the season on Monday.
It was the first Scotland gathering since their tour of Argentina, with Hadden having named a 50-strong squad last week.
The ten players, which included national captain Jason White, failed to show after their respective Guinness Premiership clubs refused them release.
The Scottish Rugby Union has not commented but said it would release a statement in due course.
Hadden had included four players from Gloucester (Rory Lawson, Scott Lawson, Alasdair Dickenson and Alastair Strokosch), two from Sale (Jason White and Rory Lamont), two from Northampton (Sean Lamont and Euan Murray) and one each from Newcastle (Stephen Jones) and Saracens (Gordon Ross).
Scotland begin their November Tests against New Zealand, before taking on South Africa and Canada.
