SARU media man resigns
September 26 2008
SA Rugby communications department employee Chris Hewitt, who was at the centre of the "Peter de Villiers sex tape' controversy handed in his resignation on Thursday.
In a media release issued on Friday, SA Rugby confirmed Hewitt's resignation was submitted the day before he was scheduled to face a misconduct hearing at SARU's offices (on Friday).
"He formally leaves the company at the end of the month. SA Rugby has not made any payments in respect of the termination of Hewitt's contract other than salary and notice pay due to him, " read the statement.
SA Rugby emphasised that the statement had been released as a "response to the significant public interest in what was an on-going internal disciplinary process until the reporting of certain allegations in the media.
"SARU wish to point out that the charges related only in part to operational matters surrounding those allegations. SA Rugby regards the matter as now closed."
