Cheetahs run riot in Brakpan

September 26 2008

Hat-trick man: Nokwe grabs his third on whistle

The Cheetahs were in rampant form as they despatched the Falcons 78-7 in what was a Currie Cup breeze in Brakpan on Friday.

The twelve-try win has extra meaning also as the Cheetahs are now back in the semi-final mix after overtaking Western Province into fourth place.

It only took the visitors just 28 minutes to claim their try bonus point as they went into half-time with a healthy 31-0 cushion.

And the defending Currie Cup champions scored a further 47 points after the break, highlighted by Springbok finisher Jongi Nokwe scoring up a hat-trick.

Although seriously one-sided, the contest was an entertaining one with fellow wing JW Jonker starring and unfortunate not to pick up his own treble, which was ruled a penalty try.

Yellow cards didn't help the Falcons, however, who struggled to keep pace with their heavyweight opponents as gaps became very regular.

Another man who stood out, albeit behind a pack going forward at a rate of knots, was fly-half Jacques-Louis Potgieter.

The Cheetahs' ten demonstrated a cutting edge with pace and vision to go with a sound boot and was rewarded with his own scorer in the second period.
