Jones lands consultancy role in Wales
October 03 2008
Former Ospreys coach Lyn Jones has accepted a consultancy role with Welsh Principality Premiership side Ebbw Vale.
Having departed the Liberty Stadium at the end of last season, which saw them crash out of the Heineken Cup at the quarter-final stages, Jones will be with Ebbw Vale until the end of the 2008-09 season.
"The number of young players Lyn has brought through to Welsh Test level is unparalleled," an official club statement read.
"He's the most successful Welsh regional coach of the last few years. For the rest of the season, Lyn will provide consultancy services aimed to help our players and coaches grow and develop.
"He has a proven track record of delivering against these goals as his success with the Ospreys clearly demonstrates.
"He took the Ospreys to two Magners League titles and an EDF Cup final victory. The club considers itself extremely fortunate to have acquired the services of someone with Lyn Jones' experience.
"It will be a massive boost for our players and to our new backs coach Matthew McCarthy, who are all looking forward to working with Lyn."
Jones is looking forward to working with a squad that has plenty of youth in it.
"Ebbw Vale have players of true regional potential in James and Robert Lewis and a crop of potential U20 internationals," he said.
"Ebbw Vale have always had a reputation as a footballing side and have some exciting young talent.
"I will be looking to develop Aaron Coundley, Dai Langdon, James Thomas, Rhys Jenkins and Ieuan Coombes to enhance their claims for inclusion in Phil Davies' Wales U20 squad.
"I am really looking forward to meeting the rest of the squad, helping to develop them as individuals and getting on with the challenge of helping the team contest at the top of the Premiership table."
