Sale face double citing trouble
October 14 2008
Sale Sharks could receive further bad news with Rudi Keil and Kris Ormsby both being cited after their Heineken Cup win over Clermont.
Having already lost centre Lee Thomas for three months with a dislocated shoulder, they now face losing Keil for his late tackle on Benoit Baby, and Ormsby for an alleged punch.
Keil will appear before a three-man panel on Thursday 16 October after the Citing Commissioner for the match, Achille Reali (Italy), raised the complaint for an alleged dangerous tackle / striking / playing an opponent without the ball in contravention of Law 10.4 (a), 10.4 (e) and 10.4 (f).
The independent Disciplinary Committee will be chaired by Mark McParland (Ireland) and also consist of Rob Flockhart (Scotland) and Simon Thomas (Wales).
Law 10.4 (a) - Punching or striking: A player must not strike an opponent with the fist or arm, including the elbow, shoulder, head or knee(s).
Law 10.4 (e) - Dangerous tackle: A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Law 10.4 (f) - Playing an opponent without the ball. Except in a scrum, ruck or maul, a player must not hold, or push, or charge into, or obstruct an opponent not carrying the ball.
The citing concerning Ormsby lodged by the Citing Commissioner for the match, Achille Reali (Italy), is for the alleged punching / dangerous charge of Clermont lock Julien Pierre in contravention of Law 10.4 (a) and 10.4 (g).
He will appear before the same independent Disciplinary Committee as Keil.
Law 10.4 (a) - Punching or striking: A player must not strike an opponent with the fist or arm, including the elbow, shoulder, head or knee(s).
Law 10.4 (g) - Dangerous charging. A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without trying to grasp that player.
