French fist 'calmed down' Bastareaud?

Uphill: Matter continues for Marc Lièvremont

In a further twist to the Mathieu Bastareaud saga, France's media has suggested he may have even been punched by his own team-mate.

The 20-year-old centre, who last week said that he was the victim of a Wellington street attack before admitting he'd lied to cover up for falling in his hotel room, suffered a serious eye injury.

Bastareaud was subsequently flown home the Monday before last weekend's final tour Test against Australia along with three other players.

However, it seems the matter has yet to be fully resolved after French newspaper Le Parisien reported on Sunday that the youngster's team-mates might have been involved in the early morning incident.

"Drunk and aggressive, Bastareaud was reportedly calmed down by a fist from one of his teammates," read the daily paper.

Les Bleus duo Louis Picamoles and Fulgence Ouedraogo were named as being involved in the incident by news agency Agence France Presse but both denied the allegation.
