Muller the answer to Bok lock crises
June 29 2009
Sharks lock Johann Muller was on Monday called up to the Springbok squad to replace Andries Bekker, who tore cartilage in his knee during Saturday's second Test against the British & Irish Lions in Pretoria.
Bekker saw an orthopaedic specialist and will have a scope performed on his knee on Monday evening.
With Springbok lock Bakkies Botha banned following a dangerous charge on Lions prop Adam Jones that left the Wales international nursing a dislocated shoulder, South Africa were in need of someone to partner Victor Matfield for the third Test.
Muller, who last played for the Boks in 2007, was part of the South African Training Squad that faced a Namibian invitation XV in Windhoek last month, ahead of the Lions series.
