Trio re-sign with Waratahs

July 06 2009

Fresh contract: Sekope Kepu

The Waratahs have re-signed three promising players ahead of next season, with Sekope Kepu, Ben Mowen and Damien Fitzpatrick all agreeing new contracts.

23-year-old prop Kepu has penned for a further two years after making his international debut during Australia's 2008 Spring Tour.

In-form flanker Mowen joined the Waratahs at the end of 2007 and commits his immediate future after a strong season at Sydney's franchise.

Meanwhile, Australian U20 captain Damien Fitzpatrick puts pen to paper and will compete against hookers Adam Freier and Tatafu Polota-Nau in 2010.

"These are three really significant re-signings for us," said Head Coach Chris Hickey, speaking to the Waratahs website.

"Ben Mowen was one of the most improved players in the competition this year, while Damien Fitzpatrick showed at just nineteen years of age that he can handle it in the front row at this level.

"Re-signing a prop of Sekope's ability was also extremely important for us. When Al Baxter, Matt Dunning, Sekope and Adam Freier were all out injured at the same time this year, we were blessed to have guys like Fitzy and Dan Palmer to fill the breach - that depth in the front row can't be underestimated in the Super 14."
