Brumbies secure in-form Smith
August 12 2009
The Brumbies have filled the last of their outside back positions, with Andrew Smith joining the squad on a one-year rookie contract for 2010.
The 26-year-old joined the franchise for their recent tour of France, earning the award of Best Back through some strong efforts over the four matches.
Smith, who can play outside centre, wing and full-back, has previously represented the Australian U19s and Australian Sevens squads in 2004 and was a member of the NSW Professional Academy in 2008.
And he is looking forward to heading to the capital in 2010 alongside what has been billed a title-strong squad.
"I'm very excited about next year," Smith said, with flanker Henry Vanderglas also signing a rookie deal.
"There's been a lot of talk about the potential at the Brumbies and I'm excited about being part of that success as well as joining great players like Rocky (Elsom), Stirling (Mortlock) and Matt Giteau in the squad.
"I was hoping to use this season (with Northern Suburbs) to be knocking on the door for a contract and I was fortunate enough to be selected for the French tour and the next goal is to play Super 14 rugby."
