Lund set for Biarritz move
May 09 2008
Sale Sharks and England flanker Magnus Lund is set to join French Top 14 side Biarritz at the end of the current season.
The 24-year-old was in France last month to discuss details of the move and is expected to sign a two-year deal in the very near future.
Lund, who made his Sale debut back in 2002, has hardly featured this season having been plagued with injury.
He won the last of his 10 England caps on the summer tour to South Africa last year, but missed out on Brian Ashton's World Cup squad.
Lund believes a change of scene will improve, rather than decrease, his international prospects.
"If I can be playing well in the Heineken Cup then that should keep me in the frame," he told The Daily Mail.
"Going somewhere totally new should help me develop as a player.
"I've had a great time at Sale but, for me to progress, it's time to move on. I've been here quite a while and part of the challenge will be going over to a new country and experiencing their culture.
"Hopefully that will help me develop as a person and as a player."
Sale have already taken steps to replace Lund by recruiting Leicester open-side Luke Abraham for next season.
Biarritz, Heineken Cup finalists in 2006, won the French championship in 2002, 2005 and 2006 but are in danger of missing out on the play-offs this year, in fifth position with six games left.
