Newcastle hold their breath over Wilson

Fingers crossed: Falcons wait on Wilson news

Newcastle prop David Wilson could require surgery after being injured while on England Saxons duty this week.

Wilson strained his right pectoral muscle during a conditioning session at the Saxons training camp.

He underwent an MRI scan and will see a shoulder specialist on Friday to discuss possible surgery.

The 23-year-old player is among four props in a 32-man Saxons squad selected last month for the 2008/09 season.

And any long-term absence would be a major blow for the Guinness Premiership relegation favourites, who begin their league campaign against Sale Sharks on September 7.
