Hanks the Chief heads for Wasps
October 23 2008
Waikato coach Tony Hanks has been appointed by Wasps to take some of the load off the backs of Ian McGeechan and Shaun Edwards in this British and Irish Lions year.
Hanks has presided over the Mooloos' Air New Zealand Cup campaign, which got back on track after a series of close defeats early on.
He will be especially helpful to McGeechan while the latter is sorting out his Lions squad, and while Edwards is away coaching Wales during the Six Nations.
The 37-year-old Waikato coach will join the London club on 1 November and remain in High Wycombe until March.
Hanks succeeded Warren Gatland as Waikato Head Coach when the former Wasps supremo left to become Wales head coach.
He had previously worked closely alongside Gatland during a three-year stint as Waikato's assistant coach.
