Simpson-Daniel hit with another injury blow
October 23 2008
Gloucester back James Simpson-Daniel will be out of action for at least three months after an ankle injury required surgery this week.
Having injured his ankle ligaments against Cardiff Blues on Sunday the England wing had a scan to garner the full extent of the injury.
On consulting with an ankle specialist, Mr James Calder, on Thursday it was decided surgery was required to fix the problem.
"To lose a player of James's quality is obviously a massive blow to us," Gloucester's head coach Dean Ryan said.
"He is an outstanding player and central to our attacking threat. Considering the other injuries we have across our back-line this could not have come at a worse time for us. Naturally, he will get all the support he needs in his recovery process."
England Team Manager, Martin Johnson, was upset to hear of Simpson-Daniel's latest injury, an isolated rupture in his right ankle.
"On behalf of the squad my thoughts are with James. The coaching and medical teams from Gloucester and England will be in regular contact with him during his recovery and rehabilitation," Johnson said.
"I won't be making a decision on a replacement for James until Friday."
