Tight times: Bath predict another financial loss next year

Bath, who currently sit on top of the Guinness Premiership table, have announced a record loss of £357,000 for last season.

With salaries on the increase the club have revealed they expect that figure to double, at least, at the end of next year.

Player wages account for 69 per cent of Bath's running costs, with the club reliant on owner Andrew Brownsword to keep them afloat.

Bath have desperately been trying to expand their home ground to boost the coffers, but have run into a number of administrative problems with the trustee owners of the land.

"We are grateful to Mr Brownsword for meeting these losses, but it is unreasonable to expect him to do so in the future without support," a club statement said.

Having made a £283,000 profit in 2006 and a £29,000 loss last season, the new figures see a massive increase in the club's losses.

Their 10,600-capacity ground, The Rec, limits their ability to increase their income. Bath want to raise the capacity to an initial 15,000.
