Seymour out, Bath sign one

Departing: Dave Seymour

Saracens have announced that hard-working flanker Dave Seymour has been released from the club with immediate effect.

The 24-year-old Englishman had struggled to hold down a starting place last season due to the form of back-row trio Wikus van Heerden, Michael Owen and Andy Saull.

Seymour joined the Watford-based outfit from local side Chinnor in 2003 and went on to make 105 appearances in the black jersey.

Elsewhere in the Guinness Premiership, Bath have been busy attempting to fill the back-line vacancies left by Alex Crockett, Andrew Higgins, Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu and Shaun Berne.

According to a local newspaper, Head Coach Steve Meehan has also been looking to bring in a fly-half while Butch James recovers from knee surgery but that venture has been less successful.

"The flyhalf situation has proven difficult," he said, speaking to the Bath Chronicle.

"Late last week I was hoping to be able to have some direction on that front, but the player we looked at decided to go and play elsewhere.

"We were slightly misled by his overseas agent, which was disappointing.

"Having said that, I'm confident that we'll have some firm direction of where we're going on that front sometime next week so that we can really pursue things and get on with it.

"I've got an outside back signed and he should be with us early July providing the visas come through okay.

"The rugby side of the deal is all done, so it's now just a governmental procedure that prevents us from releasing more details, but it's good news."
