Tigers await news on Woods
September 14 2009
Leicester are bracing themselves for the possibility of being without Ben Woods for a significant period after he sustained a suspected broken foot.
The promising openside flank, who joined the Welford Road outfit back in 2008 from Newcastle, was part of the Tigers' 15-9 Guinness Premiership victory over Harlequins last Saturday.
However, what has made the injury far more irritating is that the 27-year-old's inclusion in the starting line-up was only due to Lewis Moody being a late withdrawal from the game after picking up a hamstring problem.
"Ben may well have broken his foot," said a despondent Richard Cockerill, speaking to the Leicester Mercury.
"He will get an X-ray and we will see how he is.
"Lewis Moody didn't play because of a tweaked hamstring and I hope that will be short-term because we do seem to get injuries in the same positions.
"Last year, it was at lock, this year, it is fly-half and now openside flanker. But Craig Newby has played Test matches for the All Blacks at openside so he will be all right."
