Promising duo re-sign with Sale
February 04 2010
Sale Sharks have announced that two of their young players, James Gaskell and Marc Jones, have signed extensions to their contracts.
19-year-old Gaskell has signed for a further two years, which will keep him at the club at least until July 2013. He has played at flanker this season, in addition to his accustomed position at lock and has scored four tries so far.
"I'm very pleased to sign this contract extension, and want to build on what I've done this season at Sale Sharks. I aim to keep performing well for the first team," said the forward.
At 22, hooker Jones was capped by Wales at U20 level and made his debut at Northampton in 2006, playing 39 times since that day.
"Obviously, it's great to be signing and committing myself to the club for two more seasons. I've thoroughly enjoyed the five years I've been at the club," he said.
"This will take me up to the age of 25. I really enjoy Manchester and love playing for Sale Sharks."
Meanwhile, Director of Rugby Kingsley Jones added his delight following the news and hopes to watch the duo continue to grow in Sale colours.
"James is a fantastic talent with huge potential. I didn't expect him to be where he is right now, but he's always been in my plans to give him first-team rugby," he said.
"Every time he's taken the chance, he's made it very difficult to leave him out of the side, We're conscious of not pushing him too hard too soon; we'll keep working on his strengths and develop his natural talent.
"Marc has signed an extension to 2012. We were excited to have him as a young player. He's fully committed to the club and epitomises what we're about. He works hard and I'm sure he'll be a full Welsh international one day."
