New Zealand name their Super 14 squads
October 31 2008
The five New Zealand franchises have named their squads for the 2009 Super 14 campaign.
With all five squads named there are a total of thirty players making a Super 14 squad for the first time, and there have also been thirteen players drafted between the franchises.
The Crusaders, the defending champions, will be under Todd Blackadder's watchful gaze this season, and he has included young fly-half Colin Slade.
It has been nothing but good news lately for 21-year-old Slade, who steered Canterbury to their tense Air New Zealand Cup final victory over Wellington last weekend.
"I'm over the moon," he said. "I can't celebrate too much as I'm in the middle of exams (mass communications degree at the University of Canterbury) but this has been an amazing few days for me."
Between the five franchises there will be five sets of brothers playing - Jacob and Tamati Ellison, Ben and Owen Franks, Scott and Thomas Waldrom, Adam and George Whitelock, Ali and Jay Williams - a record for the Super 14.
