May 31 2009
Chiefs captain Mils Muliaina paid respect to the Bulls and their crowd after his team suffered the biggest ever defeat in a Super Rugby final.
The result - a 61-17 thumping - was the highest score and biggest winning margin in a Super Rugby final, surpassing the Brumbies' 36-6 defeat of the Sharks in 2001.
The Bulls completely outplayed the Chiefs scoring eight tries to two as the Bulls played some of the best multi faceted rugby seen yet in Super Rugby.
Chiefs captain and All Black full-back Muliaina, who scored one of his team's two tries said after the match that the Bulls thoroughly deserved their victory.
"We weren't allowed to play by a fantastic Bulls side, you showed us how to play," he said at the presentation ceremony where he received a runners up medal.
Muliaina praised his own players for their efforts during the season.
"It has been a pleasure captaining you, you have been a fine group of men," he said.
Muliaina also thanked the crowd which he said was "awesome" even though they were not backing the Chiefs. He signed off by saying thank you in Afrikaans - "Baie Dankie".
