Crushing blow: Louis Ludik

Golden Lions full-back Louis Ludik has been left bitterly disappointed after sustaining a crushing knee injury in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The talented runner lasted just five minutes of the British & Irish Lions fixture at Ellis Park before being stretchered off due to a mid-kick collision that will leave him sidelined for six months.

Ludik enjoyed a strong Super 14 season for his franchise and admitted the injury was a difficult pill to swallow, particularly having set his mind on being a thorn in Ian McGeechan's touring side.

"I would have played two matches [for Golden Lions and Emerging Boks] against the Lions, now I have only had five minutes against them," he said, speaking News 24.

Ludik tore his cruciate and collateral ligaments in his right knee and will miss out on what would have been the highlight of his playing career to date.

"It is definitely the end of the season for me. It was not a bad year, but it's over now. I was really looking forward to that opportunity," Ludik said regarding his initial inclusion in the Emerging Bok squad.

"It [the injury] was bad, I was totally groggy after I was injured. Only when I got home after the match did I see the final score. I couldn't believe it."
