Daniel Braid: Staying Red

Former All Blacks flanker Daniel Braid has given the battling Reds a major boost by signing on for a second Super 14 season in Queensland.

Braid had initially planned to move to Welsh club Scarlets after exercising a get out clause in his Australian contract, but the lucrative overseas deal fell threw after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in April.

On Tuesday Braid confirmed that he had would take up the option of another year in Brisbane after thinking the decision over while back in New Zealand.

The news comes as huge boost for the Reds, who need a ball fetcher after failing to get the signature of Western Force loose forward Richard Brown.

Queensland's high performance manager Ben Whitaker was delighted with Braid's decision as the former Auckland Blues back-rower also played an important role in tutoring the young Reds pack.
