Have you always been a loosehead?

No, I started at No 8. It was a tough move to make but now I’m better for it.

You’re in the Leinster academy, but what are your next goals?

I want Ireland U20 to do well in the Six Nations, and to improve my game and get capped for Leinster A.

Childhood rugby hero?

Brian O’Driscoll. I used to watch him when he had long blonde hair and played in gloves! Seeing him every day and shaking his hand is unreal.

Who are your other mentors at Leinster?

Sean O’Brien, Cian Healy and Jack McGrath. We train with the seniors a few times a week. They’re definitely a level above us. It’s also good to see that you’re not too far away!

What do you do when you’re not playing rugby?

I’m studying geography and English. I’m in my second year of a three-year course at UCD. I’m full-time at the moment, although next semester might be tough with the U20 Six Nations.

RW verdict: Dooley will benefit from Healy’s presence, while Ireland are looking to nurture all young props.
