A ‘SEA of red’ dominated the crowd at The Gabba for The British & Irish Lions’ first Test in 2001 and became the iconic image of that year’s Tour to Australia. So why not become part of history yourself? The Lions head Down Under once again next summer and with official packages to suit every taste and budget from Gullivers Sports Travel, you could be in the stands cheering them on, drinking a schooner and wearing thongs – flip-flops to us Brits!

Win a Holiday to Dubai Sevens 2012

As in 2001, next year’s Test series against the Wallabies kicks off in Brisbane – a fantastic city to visit even if there wasn’t rugby on the agenda. Here are just five of the fantastic activities to put to the entertainment committee…

1. Cuddly bear

Rugby may be famed for the hurly-burly, but it can be enjoyable to show a gentler side and get in touch with nature too. At Brisbane’s Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary you can cuddle koalas, feed kangaroos and see other native wildlife.

2. Paddle power

If city-centre traffic can drive you to using the word ‘strewth’, why not see the Brisbane sights by kayaking down the river? It offers the chance to burn a few calories (everyone puts on a bit of weight on holiday!) and there are even night tours that finish with a prawn barbie.

Sand tobogganing

Fun! Sand tabogganing on Moreton Island

3. Drink up!

For those after a more traditional touring pastime, a trip to the XXXX brewery is just the ticket. Hit back at any naysayers by explaining that you’re learning about the history of beer and the science of brewing, before indulging in a few fresh ales.

4. Sun, sea and sand

Oz is all about the sun, sea and surf, and Moreton Island is perfect for a scenic day out. The world’s third largest sand island, it’s just over an hour’s ferry ride from Brisbane. You can relax in the picturesque surroundings, hand feed wild dolphins, or the thrill seekers can try quad biking and sand tobogganing.

5. A natural wonder

The Great Barrier Reef may seem like a long way away from Brisbane, but to make it easier some Gullivers packages include time there. You can also do a day trip to Lady Elliot Island, where you get to see the world’s largest coral reef up close.
