Owen Farrell has been voted the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for October.
The Saracens’ centre was chosen as the month’s stand out performer by a panel of distinguished rugby media – including writers, broadcasters and photographers.
Since an opening day defeat to London Wasps, Saracens have launched their assault on Aviva Premiership Rugby. They have recorded seven consecutive victories and remained unbeaten in the league throughout October.
Rugby World editor Paul Morgan, who chairs the panel, commented: “This month’s voting was dominated by young English stars, showing how well Aviva Premiership Rugby is developing the next generation of English talent. If England are serious about making an impact at the 2015 World Cup, then young players like Owen need to feature in this season’s RBS Six Nations. His composure to win the game at Gloucester last Saturday was stunning for a 20-year-old. Huge credit should go to everyone at Saracens for the way they have helped develop this prodigious talent. Players like Owen are not emerging – they have emerged”
Farrell, who became the youngest recipient of the award, spoke of the pride he felt for being named October’s Aviva Premiership Player of the Month: “This award comes on the back of some great team performances and I would not be collecting it if it wasn’t for the players around me. Now we are determined to keep improving as the season goes on.”
“I’m delighted to donate the money that comes with this award to Hospice of St Francis, which is the charity that the club has been working closely with since the start of the season.”
Louisa Cheetham, Head of Sponsorship at Premiership Rugby sponsors Aviva added: “Having a father to have played the game at such a high level, can sometimes be a burden upon such young shoulders – this hasn’t been the case with Owen. He shows great awareness of the game and on pitch maturity beyond his years – he is going from strength to strength in Aviva Premiership Rugby.”Like Rugby World?
