SOMETIMES THE stats do lie.
If you didn’t know the score at Murrayfield on Sunday and were just handed the match data afterwards, everything would suggest that Ireland had beaten Scotland and consequently joined Wales and England at having a shot at the Championship title. But as everyone knows by now, against the odds, it’s Scotland who earned that right.

EVERY YEAR, as Christmas drew closer, my school rugby team would embark upon a festive fitness regime. Regardless of how much frost there was, we would work on early morning sprints up ‘The Hill’. It was tortuous.

IRELAND ENDURED a miserable evening at Eden Park last weekend, the All Blacks running in five tries in a comprehensive 42-10 win to ensure their unbeaten run against the men in green remained intact. It may have been New Zealand’s first outing since the World Cup final last October and they may have capped three new players, but they still looked far and away the best side in the world.
