Sale Sharks are delighted to announce the signing of Tasesa Lavea from Clermont Auvergne on a two year deal. New Zealand born of Samoan descent Tasesa is a goal kicking fly half who can also play centre.
Tasesa played for the Chiefs for two seasons from 2007 before joining Clermont where he was a member of their Championship winning side last season. He has also played for the Blues in Super Rugby
Following secondary school, Tasesa played for the Junior All Blacks before switching codes and played rugby league for Melbourne Storm. In 2000 he was their leading points scorer (190) and was named NRL rookie of the year. Tasesa has also represented New Zealand RL at international level and in November 2000 broke Henry Paul’s Kiwi record by scoring 32 points in an international game.
In November 2010 he was called up by the Samoan National Team for the Autumn Internationals in the UK.
Executive Director of Sport Steve Diamond said,” This is an excellent capture for Sale Sharks. Tasesa is a quality act and he will fit in perfectly with our plans for next season.”
Commenting on his move Tasesa said, “Having played a lot of top level rugby in the Southern Hemisphere and in the past 2 years experiencing success in the Top 14 with Clermont, it is a fantastic opportunity for me to experience another tough, world class competition with Sale Sharks. I like the fact that the club is making changes and want a fresh start and it is exactly the type of challenge I am looking for”
