Dave Attwood, the Bath and England lock, wasn’t one for sports idols as a kid. “The only memory I have of watching rugby as a boy,” he says, “is watching Jonah Lomu thump Will Carling into the floor. I was eating croissants at the time.” There are probably a few instances of Lomu using the former England captain as a doormat.
