You may not have heard too much about Nathan Charles, even after the Wallaby played two matches against the All Blacks in the last fortnight. However, you will be impressed by his story...

The good folks at IRB Total Rugby filmed this in 2011, when hooker Nathan Charles was just playing for Western Force in Super Rugby. We say just: it is an incredible achievement for him to play professional sport.

Charles has the genetic condition Cystic Fibrosis, a potentially life threatening illness with no known cure. However, since this was filmed whilst Charles was 21, he has gone on to represent the Wallabies.

Now 25, he is currently injured following a major role in Australia‘s 51-20 loss to the All Blacks at Eden Park in the second week of the 2014 Rugby Championship. To claim three caps to date and be disappointed with being halted in a major tournament would be impressive for any young front-rower. His fight represents something else. There’s clearly a strong will in Charles!
