The HSBC World Sevens Series gets underway on the Gold Coast of Australia next weekend, and the USA’s Carlin Isles is likely to be one of the star draws on the weekend – although if you blink, you’ll probably miss him.
In this new video, we get to see how the former Glasgow Warriors flyer, who has been dubbed ‘the fastest player in the world’, measures up against Usain Bolt and some of the jet-heeled superstars of the NFL and NBA.
The on-screen stats show us that Isles is 0.22 seconds faster than Olympic sprinting icon Bolt over the first 20 metres, whilst his 40 yard dash – a key metric in rugby – tops anything ever recorded by an NFL player.
The clip also includes several highlights of Isles using his quickfire feet and pirouetting magic to leave a trail of defenders in his wake en route to the tryline, a prospect that should have all USA Eagles Sevens fans hopeful that their team can improve on a disappointing 13th place finish from last year.
If they can qualify for Rio, we’ll get to see even more of him in the 2016 Olympics as Sevens takes a bow for the first time, although if this video is anything to go by, he may have to swap events. Enjoy!
