Scotland booked their place in the last eight with a narrow win over Samoa. It was an extraordinary game of drama and tension, but Greig Laidlaw proved to be the difference and scored 26 points, including a decisive second-half try. The Scots had to cling on following Motu Matu’u’s late score.

Samoa put in their best performance in this World Cup and they came roaring out of the blocks. Their hard work was rewarded, picking up a four-try bonus point as they found numerous gaps in the Scotland defence. Samoa scored through Tusi Pisi, Ma’atulimanu Leiataua and Rey Lee-Lo in a fantastic first half.
