The Munster and Ireland wing talks Lions, sharks and chickens

RUGBY WORLD: What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen or heard on the pitch?

SIMON ZEBO: Conor Murray’s reaction to me telling him to kick the ball out when time wasn’t up. It was in the Rebels game at half-time on the Lions tour and he was very angry. I’m not sure if he’s forgiven me!

RW: Any nicknames?

SZ: Zeebs and Harvey. That’s after (rapper) MC Harvey. Marcus Horan came up with it as a joke.

RW: Do you rap?

SZ: A little bit. Alex Corbisiero and I had a rap-off on the bus on the Lions tour. Obviously I won! I just like to rap – be it other people’s words or my own.

RW: What’s your guilty pleasure?

SZ: McFlurries. I treat myself once a week.

Funny man: Cuthbert enjoys some jetskiing in Noosa

Funny man: Cuthbert enjoys some jetskiing in Noosa

RW: Who are the jokers you know in rugby?

SZ: Alex Cuthbert is in his own world all together. He’s also a ladies man and I enjoy watching him at work! With Munster and Ireland it’s Mike Sherry and David Kilcoyne. The front row have their own sense of humour. I get it sometimes but it’s weird.

RW: Do you have any phobias?

SZ: Sharks. We went jet-skiing in Noosa in Australia and I fell off when we were really far out and there was shark bait on the buoys to stop them coming further in. I got very scared then! I don’t like flying either, but I’m not as bad with that as I am with sharks.

RW: What about your bugbears?

SZ: People who bite their fork when they’re eating; when they scrape their food off their fork. Other than that, I’m happy-go-lucky so nothing really annoys me too much.

RW: Do you have any superstitions?

SZ: Not too many, but I do everything on the right-hand side on match day. So I sit on the right-hand side of the bus, put on my right sock and boot first.

RW: Who’d you like to be stuck in a lift with?

SZ: Anybody in the world? Actress Michelle Keegan. Or Rebecca Fox. She’s a model with a lot of tattoos. I like tattoos on women, as long as I like the tattoo and it looks good!

RW: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

SZ: To fly. I’d just fly all over the world. To be able to fly under my own power, I’d be happy.

RW: Who would be your three dream dinner-party guests?

SZ: Alive and dead? Bob Marley, LeBron James and Floyd Mayweather. Music and sport are my favourite things. Bob Marley is one of my favourite musicians and people. The other two I’ve picked because I’m in awe of them. I love basketball and boxing.

Lookalikes? Zebo reckons Smith

Fresh Prince: reckon Smith would make a good Zebo?

RW: Who’d play you in a film of your life?

SZ: Will Smith. I love him in The Fresh Prince – I watch the reruns.

RW: What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever bought?

SZ: I recently bought a sleeveless biker jacket, but within two minutes of buying it I got such a slagging off the lads that I realised it was horrible. It’s still got the tag on and I’ll never wear it. The saleswoman was really persuasive!

RW: What would you like to achieve outside of rugby?

SZ: To set up my own business and run it successfully. I don’t know what in yet, but maybe something to do with food. I love food and cooking. My dad taught me how to cook, and I do a lot of Caribbean and French food. My speciality is chicken colombo.

RW: Do you have any hidden talents?

SZ: Dancing. I’ve got quite a few moves!

RW: How’d you like to be remembered?

SZ: As a fun-loving guy.
